Peace River Camping with Canoe Outpost

We've decided to change it up a bit and leave South Florida. Get away from the city life, the clubbing, the traffic, the partying and especially the rude as Miami people. Instead we opted to go to the middle of nowhere (and i'm not being sarcastic) WE'RE GOING CAMPING IN ARCADIA!

So I rounded the gang up and brought some fresh blood to the mix

Now let me tell you right off the back... Arcadia is a weird ass looking place... Everything there seems old as hell. I mean check this out.

I'd be worried if one of these bad boys pulled up to my house in the event of a fire.

We arrive to the campgrounds and it actually looks pretty nice, a nice looking
river, blue sky and some kayaks.

Very peaceful looking we thought we were in for a nice relaxing vacation.... That is until we saw this creepy looking mothersucka!

He reminds me of my 7th grade civics teacher... i still get the willies just thinking about it!

So we shoved off and began kayaking to our campsite which was conveniently located only 8 miles away a mere 2-3 hour ride down the river.

In case you're wondering... that's a dead armadillo. We named him Frank.

2-3 HOURS MY ASS! It felt like we were kayaking FOREVER! It literally took our crew 5 hours to move 3 kayaks (downstream by the way) to get to our site. Being the genius's that we are we had decided previously to go kayaking without bringing anything to eat except for a couple of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I didn't think we'd make it out alive. Especially since Luis and I kept flipping over our kayak.

I didn't think we'd make it out alive and it wasn't looking good for us.

Finally we made it to the campsite... I'll give you one guess what the first thing we did was.

Oh how we ate like kings!

So yeah we actually found out the hard way that camping is nothing like what you see in the movies or on television. Theirs no late night scary stories, or weird noises in the dark, theirs no exciting hunting or even the odd chance that you see a nudist. It's actually pretty damn boring. It was bad I'm talking, thinking about the meaning of life boring... so theirs only 3 things left to do when you're bored.

Drink Alcohol...

Sleep...

and then
there's that other thing...

Kids.. two things to learn from here... one always remember the sunblock and two never think you can walk through fire.

On a slightly more serious note though camping did teach us how to be self sufficient and pull away from the comforts of modern society.

You don't need a bathroom when you have a lantern and a paper plate

He was so proud

After we sobered up ::ahem:: woke up from a nice nap it was time to get back to work... and oh yeah this is one of the fun things about camping... PLAYING WITH FIRE!!!

Our last fire that we made was GI-NOR-MOUS... Here's a picture we took at night to give you an idea of it's MAG-NA-NA-MOUS-NESS (my english teacher would be so
proud)

That's pretty much it... besides the trip down the worlds longest stretch of intercoastal river and the fact that their really wasn't much to do. We had a blast. There weren't any mosquitoes, we got to see some nice wildlife (including alligators woot!) I recommend getting away from the harshness of real city life living and get away to nature.

BYE BYE!

What happens on the river should stay on the river. Just kidding! Thanks for coming to see us. See you on the river, Becky and the rest of the gang at Canoe Outpost.

Becky we had a great time... it was good finally meeting you and the crew. We'll be taking this trip every year and in fact have one planned for the winter.

BTW thanks for checking out my blog ;)

Going in the winter time is the way to go. Less bugs, Cool clear nights. Kinda gives you a reason to hang around the fire. also when you feel up to it, start higher up the river. (North) Like Zolfo Springs or Wachulla, Much more remote and wild......
